Heidi Stevens is the Director of External Affairs at the TMW Center for Early Learning + Public Health, a translational research institute at the University of Chicago. She worked for 23 years as a writer and editor at the Chicago Tribune, writing a daily column called Balancing Act for a decade. Heidi earned the Anne Keegan Award for Distinguished Journalism in 2018, and she currently maintains a nationally syndicated column. Heidi has been a Facilitator and Fellowship Coach with The OpEd Project since 2021.

of this, unfortunately, although I'm inspired by the resistance and the reactions and the satirists

and protesters who are doing

amazing nonviolent displays of protests in all of these places.

At work matters doing that, supporting that matters, and stay safe out there.

I discovered her years ago when she was a columnist at the Chicago Tribune, where she still syndicated.

And she actually did a story on some work I was doing, some activism I was doing with anti-violence groups,

domestic violence groups, women's groups, specifically violence against women.

I worked on that issue for a couple of years with a few different nonprofits that I

volunteered for and spoke and hosted different events and so on, raise money for, and actually

even launched this kind of little campaign
