Hi everybody, it's Joe Lample, the Joe Behind Joe Gardner, and welcome to the Joe Gardner

Well, it's time for another Geek Out session.

It's been a while since we had our last one, when we talked about the soil food web, specifically

drilling down on the powers of bacteria and fungi, and their role in all of that, and it's

those microscopic players that have a very significant part in the process.

And as a Gardner, and certainly as a listener to this podcast, you've learned by now that

it is the little things that can sometimes have the greatest impact in our soil and with

the plants growing in them.

Well, get ready for another fascinating conversation, because this episode focuses on some of

the other very little things living and lurking in the soil food web, nematodes, basically

microscopic worms.

Most are so small in fact that you can't see them without a microscope, yet these nematodes

play a key role in the soil food web and nutrient cycling.

Some can devastate your plants, while other nematodes are very effective, it's seeking out

pest insects in your soil and killing them.

So I thought it was time we dig deeper into the mysterious world of these creatures that

have such an impact on our gardening lives.
