And you're listening to The Important Cinema Club. And today, we're talking about one of the

German filmmaking luminaries. Rainer, Werner, Fastbender, the Andy Milligan of Germany.

I've been saving that all week. Just for you. I was watching Andy Milligan films Germany. I've been saving that all week.

I actually, I was watching Andy Milligan films and I was like,

maybe I like these more than Fastbender's films.

But we'll get into that.

So, what's your history with Fastbender?

My history is casual fan.

I've probably seen.

I mean, the man was wildly prolific. Over 40 movies. And he died

when he was, what, 40 in his early 40s? He died in his 30s. Okay. There you go. I mean,

an insane body of work, which I've seen probably, I don't know, eight or nine of over the years.

And I have liked most of what I've seen. He doesn't speak directly to me.

So, like, a lot of, like, kind of the more art-housey filmmakers, I actually discovered

Fassbinder on my own reading books in the York University Library. And I think I just stumbled

upon, like, a big section just dedicated to him and I started reading this stuff and as a filmmaker

he always kind of inspired me in the way that like my favorite prolific like doing a bunch of

stuff guys do like the idea of this filmmaker who made like 40 movies in such a small span he would make

like four to five movies a year

with a troop of people

that he would just like use as like a respiratory company
