0:00.0 | Attention, attention, action this day. Welcome to We Have Ways of Making You Talk. |
0:13.5 | Dunkirk Week in a bit special. James and I, James Holland and I of course, we're trying |
0:20.4 | to take us through without too much digression though we failed miserably yesterday. The events |
0:27.0 | of the most important week in modern history. Let's go modern history. Yeah, I think it's |
0:31.2 | fun. It's a modern stuff that let's be honest now the modern stuff matters more, don't |
0:35.4 | it? I mean it's not like your brother scraping around him for Mopoli or something. This |
0:38.8 | is his cares. I mean he cares. Who cares, you know, buddhist buddies, Bartons. This is |
0:48.0 | much more important. Anyway, so for me, Monday the 27th of May is the daddy of all days |
0:55.6 | because this is the closest in my humble opinion that Britain gets to losing the war. It's |
1:01.3 | really fascinating. You know, so this is the day that King Leopold decides of the Belgians, |
1:06.8 | decides that he's going to see for an armistice. So suddenly the Belgians are going to be out. |
1:11.2 | Now the Belgians are holding the whole north west flank of the northern bit of the pocket. |
1:18.6 | So that's going to have to be filled overnight when the armistice comes into play early in |
1:23.4 | the hours of the 28th. So that's got to be dealt with. Don Kirk is being absolutely hammered |
1:28.6 | by bombers. All along protecting this kind of sort of lozange. It's basically looks a bit |
1:35.4 | like a kind of ice lolly on its side, like a zoom ice lolly. That's what it looks like. |
1:41.1 | And the southern flank is being held together by some pockets of defense, one of which is |
1:46.1 | on this little hill that sticks out in the middle of nowhere castle. So that is where the |
1:50.7 | Germans start attacking this. And early in the morning with the whole tour delifted, that is when |
1:55.4 | the Panzers start going back into action. Royal Navy ships which have come overnight to Don Kirk |
2:02.5 | are now being shelled by the Germans on land. Because they're within artillery range. |
2:07.8 | Yeah, they turn the guns round from the Karpagalli, from Graveline and their turnium on Don Kirk. |
