Summary

You're trying to lose weight and the scale has barely moved. You're building something and a year in, it's still not where you need it to be. You're waiting on a hard season to lift, a relationship to heal, a prayer to be answered.

That's waiting. And almost all of us are doing it right now, in at least one part of our lives.

Here's what I've come to believe: there's a way to wait well, and a way to wait poorly. Most of us never realized waiting was something you could be good or bad at. But how you wait may be the single biggest factor in whether you ever get to the other side.

In this episode: what waiting well actually looks like, and why it has nothing to do with how far away you are or how long it's going to take. The difference between knowing you have agency and feeling it. Why "there are no good options" is almost never true β€” it's a poverty of options, and the cure is creativity. My "stupid idea time" practice and the decision it produced. And how waiting well still applies even to the things you can't control at all β€” grief, a marriage, a child, a prayer β€” because there is always something within your power, even when the outcome isn't.

You are not stuck. You are between. And how you wait in the between shapes everything that comes after it.

A lot of us are waiting for something,

waiting for more results, waiting for healing, waiting to reach our goals. And there's a way to wait well. And there's a way to wait poorly. And most of us have never

thought about waiting as something that is a skill we could be good at or bad at. We think of waiting

as something that sort of happens to us, like dead space, a holding pattern. And sometimes it feels like a

weight, till the business is profitable, till the marriage heals for the season to lift. But waiting

is not dead space. I saw something once that said something along

your fertility or your marriage or, you know, it's not dead space.

The point being it is practical and it is valuable and there is a way to wait well and there's

In life, we're going to spend a lot of time waiting.

And it's actually, as silly as it sounds, waiting is maybe one of the most important things you'll ever do. Because meaningful things are happening in the weight. Your life is going by in the weight.
