And I came across a Thomas Brooks quote that prompted this and so here it is.

This is a good one to ponder with plenty of applications. Let me just read it one more time.

First, our culture is certainly far more concerned with comfort than duty. Think about it.

But this isn't new. After all, Brooks' quote is from the 17th century.

Though the saints in that era were not tempted to scroll through Instagram when they should have been doing their duties,

they had plenty of other temptations to distract them, plenty of excuses to make.

The heart of man is prone to excuse sin in every era and the temptations fall in the same old categories.

Like always, women today are still targeted with temptations and lies to put themselves first,

to indulge themselves, to pamper and baby themselves, to think more highly of themselves than they ought,

and to protect themselves from every kind of obligation.

After all they reason, an obligation is stress and stress is bad.

But this is not always true to react in a sinful way to stress is bad,

but stress itself is good for us.

If we did not have stress, obligations, deadlines, responsibilities, assignments, and duties,

we would be worse than useless.

The word duty implies that you answer to someone and not just to yourself.

Modern women do not want to answer to anyone at all, just try to tell them something,
