0:16.0 | You know, in Proverbs 31, that's the proverb that describes the ideal life. |
0:23.0 | And verse 27 says, she watches over the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. |
0:31.0 | Notice she's doing one thing and not doing the other. |
0:36.0 | The problem is when we do the wrong thing and not the right thing. |
0:41.0 | So that's what I want to talk about today. Notice she's watching over as opposed to eating a bread called idleness. |
0:50.0 | So one requires diligence and the other self-indulgence. |
0:55.0 | One is working hard, the other is wasting time. One has duties that require watchfulness and care. |
1:03.0 | The other neglects duty and chooses rather to satisfy that fleshly desire called laziness. |
1:11.0 | But what does it mean to watch over the ways of her household? |
1:15.0 | Well, it means being engaged, taking responsibility, taking ownership, working hard, fulfilling your God-given duties and then some. |
1:25.0 | It's not procrastinating, it's not letting things pile up undone, it's keeping an eye out and being on duty. |
1:34.0 | God is the one who has set you in your own unique household. |
1:38.0 | It may not be a vast household yet, it may just be a dorm room or your own bedroom in your family's home. |
1:45.0 | Well, are you watching over it with diligence? |
1:49.0 | Are you looking forward to the day when God is going to give you more to watch over? |
1:53.0 | Or is your bed full of the breadcrumbs that come from eating the bread of idleness while you make excuses? |
2:00.0 | Proverbs 6, 10 and 11 says, a little sleep, a little slumber, a little olden up the hands to sleep. |
2:07.0 | So shall your poverty come on you like a prowler and your need like an armed man. |
2:14.0 | The same idea is repeated in Proverbs 24 verses 33 and 34. |
2:19.0 | Thomas Brooks appeared and says, idleness is the very source of sin, standing pools gather mud |
