Welcome back to James Popery. I'm Joe Heschmire. I want to talk about this idea of whether or not Roman Catholics believe in workspace salvation.

0:06.9

Because this is a charge I've heard many times. And there are aspects of Catholic theology that I understand sound alien and even heretical to Protestant ears.

0:16.1

Particularly, I want to talk about this idea of a so-called treasury of merit. I don't know if you've heard of this, but if you have and you're a Protestant,

0:23.7

you might have found it weird and, again, Pelagian sounding or something.

0:28.4

Many Protestants, understandably, find the whole thing completely unbiblical.

1:25.0

the Treasury of Merit is. And number two, getting this question right is really helpful

1:30.3

in making sense of a bunch of other areas.

1:32.3

Catholics and Protestants disagree.

1:34.3

Most notably, purgatory and indulgences.

1:37.3

I'm not going to get into those topics today, by the way,

1:40.3

but this is much more at the root of that fight

1:43.3

that I think many Catholics and Protestants realize.
