Summary

In this episode, I talk about what volumetric weight is and how to get it.

To calculate the volumetric weight of the package, you multiply lenght, width, and height in cm and divide it by 5000 or 6000. For domestic shipments, 6000 is more commonly used and 5000, if it is an international shipment. It's important to ask the shipper what they divide it by.

Actual weight is the actual weight of the package.

0:04.0

So if you were to grab your package of your product, whatever it is, put it on a scale and it weighs 5 pounds, that's the actual weight.

0:12.0

So actual weight is easy.

The real I think purpose of the episode is what the heck is volumetric weight and how do I calculate it?

0:19.0

Volumetric weight is based on the size of the

0:23.4

package and the weight of the package. What's up guys? You're listening to another episode

In this episode, we're going to talk about actual versus volumetric weight when calculating shipping.

This is actually a question that came up from someone, and I honestly can't remember if it was a member of my coaching program or if it was just someone on social media.

0:52.2

But someone was asking me, this was a few

0:54.2

weeks ago, about actual and volumetric weight. And I was actually really surprised that that question

0:59.1

hadn't come up before in, you know, the past two years that I've been working and mentoring people

1:03.6

on their Amazon businesses. I think that was the very first time someone's actually asked me that.

1:07.8

Which again, it was a little surprising because this is something that comes up when you're sourcing, when you're working with suppliers and you're trying to get quotes

1:14.2

for shipping costs and trying to, you know, crunch your numbers and make sure your profit

1:18.0

margins are all lined up. You might get different quotes from suppliers depending on whether

1:23.4

or not they're using actual or volumetric weight. And I think a reason why some people maybe don't

1:27.6

run into this issue is they're suppliers that and freight forwarders, mainly we're talking about

1:32.0

the freight forwarder, but let's just call it suppliers. The suppliers overseas and the freight

1:35.5

forders that they're working with just go off actual weight. But there are situations depending on

1:40.9

the product that you're selling where a freight forwarder might actually charge volumetric

1:46.1

weight when shipping products. And this is true for international and domestic shipping. So this
