I'm going to tell you this because I wish someone would have told me this.

When I was deep in my struggles with binge eating, I viewed binge eating as a security

blanket and the thought of recovering felt scary in part because I felt like I was losing my

security blanket.

And what I didn't understand about recovery was that when you recover and heal from binge

and emotional overeating, you no longer feel or see or desire binge eating as that security

blanket.

It doesn't feel secure when you heal.

What feels secure are things that are actually supportive and not self-sabotaging.

It's a wild experience healing your relationship with food because when you're deep in it,

there's this belief because you feel it on a physical level that without it,

how am I ever going to find relief or how am I ever going to be able to indulge?

How am I going to be able to experience what I call the binge eating high, that euphoric

feeling after you binge, the way it gives you relief and the comfort that it brings?

So I think sometimes when we think about healing our relationship with food when we're deep

in the struggles, we have this fear that we're losing the very

thing that brings us comfort, brings us relief, brings us, you know, just the ability to numb out

and to indulge. And in a lot of ways, binge eating, overeating has become a friend of ours. It's

something for me that was attached to every emotion.

If I was tired, food was energy. If I was stressed, food was something that brought me relief.

If I was excited and felt like I accomplished something, I wanted to celebrate with food.

So it had become, you know, binge eating had become my best friend. And today on the podcast,
