this is hell the opioid epidemic was the scourge

that burned across the United States but particularly

within rural communities. The loss of life was devastating not only to the

friends and families of those whose lives were lost, but to their entire community and region.

Luckily, those same people all came together to ward off the evils of Oxycodone and the violent crime it causes. Eventually their efforts would pay off

leading to litigation that ended up with the Sackler family who profited from the menace of Oxy,

paying some $225 million in a settlement where they also denied any wrongdoing

and were never charged with any crime.

So justice was kind of served, but there's another far different side of the story and it's not

about people coming together nor is it about oxy tearing their communities apart.

More than anything it's about how the public response fueled by federal dollars ripped

communities to shreds, pitting neighbor against neighbor, turning everyone into a narc.

Some went so far as to attend trials of those arrested on charges related to opioid
