Welcome to the Feminine Podcast. This is Nancy Wilson. Thanks for joining me today.

0:11.5

So what am I thinking about today? Well, I'm thinking about writing a podcast about how

0:17.0

we have so much more room in our souls than we realize. That means I'm thinking about

0:23.5

a quote from Richard Sibbs, an influential Puritan preacher from the 17th century. And of

0:31.2

course, he's the one who got me thinking about this. So here's the quote, we never come

0:36.2

to be full. The soul has a wondrous capacity being a spiritual essence. It is capable of

0:43.9

more grace and comfort than we can have in this world. Well, do you wish you had more

0:50.7

grace and comfort? I do. And the shortage is not due to the size of our souls. We are indeed

0:59.6

capable of far more. So what's the hindrance? What keeps us from gathering in more grace

1:06.9

and more comfort? And as Sibbs points out, we can never truly be at full capacity in this

1:13.2

life. But surely we can still keep on increasing. And that's for sure true. But what's the hindrance?

1:22.7

What keeps us back? I think a major culprit is the number of pet worries that we give space.

1:32.7

Sometimes we are oblivious to them. And we don't even notice because we've made room for

1:37.6

them. And they've taken up permanent residents. If you're single, maybe it's a worry that

1:44.4

you won't get married. If you're newly married, maybe it's a pet worry that you won't have

1:50.0

kids. At any age, we can make room for our pet worries. Health worries for our kids,

1:57.6

our husbands, for ourselves, financial worries. And so far, the point is, let's evict those

2:05.9

pet worries. They are getting in the way. They're taking up way too much room in our hearts and

2:11.2

our souls. And instead, we should be filling our souls with more trust in God. Just think of that.

2:19.3

When we lived in an itty-bitty house and our kids were in elementary school,

2:23.7

I had a recurring dream that I found a door in the house that I had never noticed before.

2:30.3

And sometimes it led upstairs to a giant room. And sometimes it led to an empty wing.
