I hope you all had a sweet Christmas celebration. And now or off to the new year. Today I thought

I'd talk with you about our response or our reaction when the unexpected happens.

And any number of situations may come to your mind, both minor and major, unexpected

because we're busy dealing with what we already have on our plate or because we've been

coasting along in our groove, assuming that we will continue to coast along without

interruption and then boom. The unexpected happens. And by nature, the unexpected can't

really be anticipated. And if we try to always be prepared for every contingency, we would

never be able to live our regular daily life because we would be so distracted by what

might happen. And that can turn into worry and anxiety in a minute. So here are a few examples

of what I mean by the unexpected. You might wake up in the night with your back out or

your husband has an emergency surgery. Or maybe something less significant, but the

water pipes froze overnight and you have no water. Or the kids got sick in the night.

And of course, unexpected bad news can come in many forms. The offer on your house fell

through. Your flight home was canceled. You miscarried again. Your husband lost his job

or you lost a loved one. In all these cases, we sometimes wonder what it is that God is

trying to tell us. Once when I had an unexpected trouble, I asked my husband how he thought

I should interpret the event. What is God saying to me in this? And he answered me very

wisely. He said, this is a summons to trust. And this makes so much sense because it's

totally consistent with God's character. This unexpected event was not unexpected to God.

He knew exactly when it was coming and it was right on time. And so this event is a summons,

a message, a call. And what is a message? Well, he's saying to me specifically in this
