| 0:19.0 | Nasal sounds are those sounds that you surprisingly need to use your nose to create. |
| 0:26.2 | To show you what I mean, let's do a quick little experiment with the three nasal sounds of English, |
| 0:33.5 | the M sound, N sound, and NG sound. |
| 0:41.3 | We'll start with the M sound because it's the easiest. To create the M sound, the lips must be closed. |
| 0:47.3 | M. |
| 0:49.3 | Now I want you to create that sound while holding your nose shut with your fingers. |
| 0:56.8 | You can't really just imagine this action in your head. |
| 1:00.6 | You have to actually do it. |
| 1:03.4 | So hold your nose shut and say the M sound. |
| 1:08.1 | Could you do it? |
| 1:10.0 | If you could, you aren't creating the M sound correctly. |
| 1:14.8 | This is because the air must pass out through our nose for all three nasal sounds. |
| 1:22.4 | Let's try the N sound next. |
| 1:26.1 | To create the N sound, my tongue is pressed against the middle of my tooth ridge. |
| 1:32.5 | My tooth ridge is that bump right behind my top front teeth. I completely block the air from pushing |
| 1:40.3 | past my tongue and so the air must come out my nose. |
| 1:45.5 | Mm. |
| 1:47.1 | Again, you cannot create that sound if your nose is plugged. |
| 1:53.2 | The N sound can really be a troublesome sound for native speakers of Cantonese and Japanese, |
