I feel like we've all been through something. The mental effects of a pandemic are definitely gonna be somehow detrimental to our health later on, but you know, see your therapist. Gotta say, I almost gave up on today's story a while back when I was when I started like writing my notes because there is shockingly very little information out on this cult. And the reason it's so shocking is because it's one it's still active. Okay, what we're gonna get to all of that. And the cult became pretty publicized in the late 80s, early 90s. So what wasn't that long ago?

But I really want to tell the story. So at the end of the day, I'm like, okay, I'm gonna do it anyways. It's a very good cult leader story. So we're just gonna go with it.

I did find a documentary, which I'll of course link and talk about more as we get into things. Then there's some articles where I'll link those in the description as well.

The documentary is actually oddly enough, it was like a people's investigate thing. I think it's on Amazon Prime. You can buy it. I mean, essentially it tells the same stories details wise that I'll be telling, but it goes a little more in depth because it interviews some of the people that were in the cult.

You can watch that. It'll probably be a little repetitive. For me personally, I'm such a visual person. I like to see who they're talking to. So maybe watch that after. I'll link the name and everything in the description for today's episode. Let's get to it.

There won't be one city left on earth intact. There will be blowups and fires all over this earth. Those are the words of Julius Shocknow, typically referred to as Brother Julius or even Julius Christ.

Yeah, don't worry. We'll get there. Today we are talking about a group referred to as the work, which come on. That's your cult name, the work. It's gotta be one of the worst cult names in my opinion.

All the iterations of everything you can use and you choose the work. Hey, here's an idea. Maybe work on a new name.

Especially if they're still active today. Hello, it's not too late to change the work as a group flew under the radar for nearly two decades before a gruesome discovery led to some unwanted exposure. There's some deaths. There's some moita. It's really got everything.

The list of 2018 Connecticut police arrest these two guys Rudy Hanan and Sorek Minery for murder. The two men that were arrested as well as the victim were all members of the work. This secret of cult operating in central Connecticut that was founded by Julius Shocknow.

Julius began attracting followers in the 70s. It was really the later 70s. There was a lot going on at the time. There was lots of drinking, lots of drugs. We're passing through that whole free love movement and very culty time in history.

Think about how many cults have we talked about now that were active during these years. Ask your parents. They were probably in a cult.

So Julius, not a looker. Rarely are they. You would think that cult leaders would be more handsome. Good looking. But you know, you got a personality. You got a personality. I love him. He's so funny. He's not the best looking, but he's so funny.

Julius was born in 1924 to a poor family in New York City. They were of the Jewish faith. I believe that he grew up primarily in Brooklyn. And he himself described his childhood as quote normal. When he was younger, he would shine shoes to make a buck. He said, I was an ordinary sinful kid.

There's a few interviews with him later on that I'll try and link as well. So that that he grows up. Again, there's not a lot of like there's not even a Wikipedia page on this guy. There's no basic article out there giving any sort of insight into his personal upbringing. So he serves in the Navy after World War II in 1946. So at this point, he's what that he's born in 1924. He's like 22 years old ish.

It's while serving that he has a life changing experience where apparently God speaks to him. So the hot goss is that God told Julius. Julius, you will help me close the world in your generation.

Doesn't sound good doesn't sound nice again. He grew up in the Jewish faith. But after hearing God and having this spiritual awakening, he starts obsessively reading the Bible. So for the next five years, it's like day and night deciphering it trying to figure out what it all means. And in his head, he's preparing for a second coming. And as it goes on eventually, it gets more into the whole, you know,

reading the world of evil, which always now makes me think of the day bells like reading the world of zombies or whatever. And we're going to see more of that theme later on. Wait, speaking of the day bells really quick, not to go off. But the lifetime movie comes out this week. I'm trying to figure out a way to watch it with you guys. If not, I'll like watch it in Instagram story at the same time or something. But that's lame. I really want to have a watch party trying to figure it out.
