Hello, everyone, and welcome to another edition of Mormon Stories podcast.

We are recording this episode June 2, 2020, and we will be releasing it on June 3, 2020.

Today, we have a very somber episode.

We will be discussing at least two things.

One, we will be discussing again on Mormon Stories.

Unfortunately, the unlawful killing of people of color by law enforcement officers and white citizens in the United States of America.

We've unfortunately had to cover this topic several times on Mormon Stories over the past few years.

We are also while these killings happen on a monthly basis in the United States and have been occurring literally for centuries.

Two of the 2020 killings or three that seem to be invoking particularly strong reactions are those of George Floyd, age 46, killed in May in Minneapolis by police officer Derek Chauvin, while fellow officers watched a mod Arbery, 25 killed in South Georgia by Travis McMichael, while his father watched.

And Breonna Taylor killed in March in Louisville, Kentucky by narcotics detectives after they knocked down her apartment door.

We are aware of the killings of George Floyd and Ahmad Arbery only because they were recorded on smartphones as summarized recently by actor Will Smith, quote, racism isn't getting worse.

It's getting filmed.

Unquote these killings have led to numerous numerous public protests throughout the United States in the past week, including this past week in Salt Lake City, Utah.

In some instances, it has been reported that white supremacists have infiltrated some of these protests to stoke violence and disorder.

During this episode, we will also be discussing today, LDS church president Russell M Nelson's recent statement in reaction to the killing of George Floyd and the corresponding protests surrounding public awareness of Floyd's death.
