Sometimes the law is the crime In the late 1980s, Los Angeles was being terrorized by

criminal gangs, and it wasn't only in Los Angeles. Everyone was becoming more and

more aware of gangbangers as they were making their presence known more and more.

There were the graffiti tags that were suddenly popping up,

marking territories and front lines of turf wars.

There was the flashing of hand signs followed by the flash from barrels of guns and drivebys.

There were the tattoos, inking gang members with pride of membership and there were the

gang clubhouses, headquarters to play the weekends,

or to plan the weekends gang-banging and rolling up on rivals and the ensuing violence and often death.

Believe it or not, some gangs even had the audacity, the sheer

audacity to set up their clubhouses in Los Angeles area police stations. No, these weren't gangs like the Cripps in the blood setting up shop at the cop shop.

These were actual cops making up their own gangs with all the trappings of any street gang.

The cops decided to fight fire with fire and in the gang wars that meant acting like and

actually forming your own gangs for whatever reason soon according to our

guest today cops had their own gangs like the Vikings and the cavemen precursors

to today's banditos all gangs with only cops as members at times entire communities were terrorized,

not only by street gangs, but by the sheriff's deputies gangs that were now in competition

with each other.
