If we followed the moon, we would have 13 months. So why don't we? Follow back to the rabbit hole.

I'm your host, Danny, and today we are talking about the 13-month calendar, why we should have a 13-month calendar.

It makes so much more sense.

Several of you have actually sent me this on Instagram, like different videos, but I didn't have like a specific request or suggestion in my suggestion form on Google Docs. So if you

have sent this to me on Instagram, thank you for that. Also, I did an

Instagram poll and this is what you guys chose. So here we go. The word calendar was taken from the term

calendars, which was a term for the first day of the month in the Roman calendar and is related to

calar or to call out referring to calling out or announcing the new moon so in

Latin calendarium calendarium is an account book or register so accounts were

settled and debts were collected on the

calends of each month. So calendar then being an account of the new moon cycle or like the

moon cycles, the Latin term was adopted in Old French before moving on to Middle English as calendar.

So that's kind of where just like the word comes from and kind of what everyone was thinking

about when they were naming it a calendar. But it was always used for timekeeping. I don't know

about you. Like humans are so into time and like it's just a construct, right?

We just created it.

But we've always wanted to know like what is the time?

How can we schedule everything?

So for as far back as we know, there has been timekeeping devices.

We see evidence of this in a number of prehistoric structures.

We also talk about lunar months versus solar years when we go into all of our timekeeping.

So a lunar month is how long it takes for us to go around from new moon to new moon.
