Hello, I'm Susan Hume and this is the Today in Parliament podcast for Friday the 13th of February.

At the end of a week of political turmoil for the government, neither the Lords nor the Commons was sitting,

but I'll be taking a look at the new focus the row has put on patronage and the House of Lords.

Also, a new inquiry into organised crime near you.

There is probably some form of money laundering going on through that barbershop or through that nail salon

or through that hand car wash. So it is

affecting what you're seeing on your streets every day. Calls for more support for the children

of alcohol addicted parents. One MP knows what he's talking about. For me it was putting my mother

to bed, tracking the bottles. We had two house fires.

One of them I had to show the fire brigade where she was.

And the boss of a fashion and textile firm in London

tells me we should be making more here,

and government contracts would help.

So it is annoying that during the COVID crisis, factories up and down the country

all stepped up, we were all there to support the NHS,

then after the crisis, they're now being made offshore.

Well, on Monday, the Prime Minister appeared to be

teetering on the edge. On Tuesday, he managed to take a step back

from the very crumbliest ground.
