Hello, I'm Alicia McCarthy, and this is today in Parliament from BBC Radio 4 for Thursday

the 12th of February, where a capital boss apologises as thousands of civil servants fail to get

their pension payments.

This service is not meeting in any sense, the service that Capitur seeks to deliver

or the pensioners and the members of this scheme deserve.

Also tonight, as the government says it will release documents within weeks about Peter

Mandelson's appointment as US ambassador,

one MP fears the whole affair.

Confirmed the worst of people's suspicions about how everything works

and punctured the optimism of those who believed in better.

And the Transport Secretary defends the government's push for electric cars.

All the evidence suggests that once people get an electric vehicle, they never look back.

But first, bosses at the outsourcing company Capita have apologised for failings in the administration of a civil service pension scheme,

which has left thousands of people without payments and some relying on emergency loans.

The firm took over running the system in December.

The Conservative Chair of the Public Accounts Committee, Sir Geoffrey Clifton Brown,

raised the case of Kiva Jennings, a 27-year-old former employee of HMRC,

who had just months to live.

From December last year, she'd been tracing capita for her ill health retirement pension.

This was paid almost immediately after her MP, quite rightly, Gregory Campbell raised her case in PMQs.
