On March 21, 1962, an intruder crept into the home of 15 year old Marlene Miller with the intentions of sexually assaulting her, as she was home alone that night. Marlene bravely fought her attacker, causing him to abandon his original plan, at which point, he stabbed her through the chest with her own sewing shears and dumped her body in the irrigation canal behind her family’s home. A suspect, whose car had been spotted near Marlene’s home at the time of the murder, was arrested the next day. His name is Booker T. Hillery. And after nearly 6 decades of fighting his case, he continues to remain an inmate with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, making him the longest serving inmate in California. He went from death row, to life in prison without parole, to having his conviction reversed, to being tried a second time a quarter century later…take a listen to this incredible story.
