Summary

We're celebrating Valentine's Day with Master Perfumer Honorine Blanc, a perfumer especially renowned for her sensual and addictive fragrances. In fact, as far as I'm concerned, modern perfumery has two eras: B.H. and A.H. (that is, before Honorine and After), because Honorine quite literally invented a texture in perfume that before her, didn't exist.

We discuss what makes a scent a 'date night scent,' how to create sensuality and texture in perfume, what it means to be a Master Perfumer, the most important advice she shares with young perfumers, and what she learned from her greatest mentors, Carlos Benaïm and Sophia Grosjman.

Add this one to the list of canon Perfume Room eps, pls n thanks.

Welcome to the perfume room. My send of the day today is Devana Seid from Lila Nour.

0:15.7

Now, this is a fragrance that I received as part of the Discovery set, I think a year back.

0:20.1

So I know that there have been a few releases since I first of the discovery set, I think a year back. So I know that there

0:21.1

have been a few releases since I first again smelled that set, but this was the most standout

0:26.3

fragrance in the entire line to me. It has such an interesting ginesaiquot element to it. And

0:31.3

there's really nothing else like it that I have ever smelled. It's got notes of Angelica and

0:35.3

musk and divana and lots of pink pepper, which make

0:38.4

it distinctly musky, peppery, and green. And I would categorize this fragrance as like

0:43.9

the most interesting skin scent in the room. It wears in the range of sort of fluffy and light,

0:49.5

and yet it's vegetal. It's leafy. It's crunchy. It's spicy. Settily piercing. And I'm no synestly,

0:55.9

but I do occasionally feel that certain musical instruments best capture how I am interpreting a

1:01.6

smell. And in this case, the instrument that I hear as I smell this fragrance is an accordion.

1:07.3

And I think that what makes something register in my brain as like an accordion scent

1:11.6

is this harmonious formula of musks, ambrette, Angelica, pink pepper. And I think that it's because

1:18.0

they all kind of sit in a similar register in my brain, but you feel and smell them individually

1:24.8

and harmoniously as you smell this fragrance.

1:31.9

So for reference, another distinct accordion scent to me would be Dipique Fleur de Poe,

1:37.1

which, as it checks out, has a lot of similar notes, though it smells incredibly different.

1:40.5

Other fragrances, I feel like also sort of have that accordion feel.

1:41.9

Do you get what I mean when I say this?

1:44.1

Like you hear all the chords, but they're all kind of related to each other. It would be, you could put something like Diptec Orphion in this

1:49.8

category. You could also put another fragrance from L'Artisan perfumere. I would put like
