I think the bass chose me.

I always think back to, I was just a kid writing the school bus, like, I don't know, 9, 10 years old, listening to AM radio, WLS, AM out of Chicago.

I grew up on a farm, and for whatever reason, like, the bass hit me, you know.

Out of the songs I was hearing in the radio,

Chicago, Sticks, Kiss, Bachman Turner Overdrive, and for whatever reason, I picked a bass out of the, when I was listening to these things, you know, and then I wanted to get a bass.

Begged my mom for a bass, you bought me a Gibson bass. It had to be a Gibson, because that's

what Kiss used, said so on the album cover, right? Kiss. Use Gibson guitars and pro drums because they want the best. It was before I understood endorsements, of course. So I got that. Didn't sound anything like Kiss, and then I learned to play the bass, and then still learn to sound like me. Flying, speeding blood.

Gene was awesome.

Still is. Gene is an incredible bass player.

Super cool songwriter, of course. I'm a fan of his music, but just a great bass player.

And it's funny, I think, in recent years has been playing better than ever.

Great licks, great tone. He's just has a, he's got a presence and a personality to his playing, and to me that's everything in being a bass player. He and I have always gotten along very well. There was a period, they did a record called Kiss My Ass, where they had a handful of people perform Kiss songs, Garth Brooks, I think maybe Anthrax did. And we were talking about Megadeth
