Hey everybody, it's Carrie Tellelson here. And this week we are honoring Gabe Groomwald. We have a lot of

episodes with Gabe and believe me they're super fun, but they're also heavy. I couldn't bring

myself this week to do an episode. We've been pretty sad in the running community. We all loved her. Gabe went to heaven

last night, June 11th at 7.52, as we all watched and hung on to the words of her husband,

Justin Gruenwald. Those two were such a team. Her family and her really close friends have shown us what true love is all about.

I thought of Gabe like a little sister. I moved back here in 2001 to be on Team USA, Minnesota,

and shortly after she was at the University of Minnesota where I trained,

and I can remember standing on the sidelines

watching her with Coach Wilson and all of the other girls that she trained with and thinking,

man, what an awesome team. And what an awesome runner. Little did I know then what an awesome person she was.

Over the years I got to know her, she became a counselor at my camp.

We would share stories about training.

We would talk about races.

She would ask me things that I had done because she was getting ready to do them as a professional athlete.

And we just grew into this nice friendship.

And it was a different one.

I texted with her a lot.
