I grew up on Freddy, which might explain a few things.

The series is a bit much, disgusting, and overtly sexual at times, much like myself.

Craven based the character off of his high school bully,

a kid named Fred Kruger. He gleaned the concept of death through nightmare after learning of a young man

who'd come to America after escaping the Cambodia killing fields and Pol Pot. The story goes that after

experiencing terrible nightmares, the man attempted to stay awake as a way to avoid them.
