I've been thinking about contentment and it's adversary discontent.

And I thought I'd just give you a few thoughts today in that area.

I hope there are thoughts we can all use.

Let's think for a minute about your waking thoughts.

And are the very first thoughts that pop into your brain during those crucial moments.

I imagine sometimes your first thoughts are grateful and happy thoughts.

The sun is shining, you have something wonderful happening today, you feel rested and amazing,

and you're eager to leap out of bed.

I'm so happy for you.

But I also imagine that sometimes your first thoughts are not full of sunshine and delight.

You might wake up to grumbling thoughts, thoughts about that stupid alarm clock, thoughts

of annoyance that someone failed to wake you up when they were supposed to wake you up,

and now you've overslept.

Or thoughts about how tired you are and how much you do not want to get up, your back

is stiff, your arm is asleep, or maybe you think it was rude to be awakened so abruptly

in the middle of such a peaceful dream, or you just want another hour.

I'm sure there are any number of things that can be an annoyance to us when we first

wake up.

It's almost as though those thoughts are a line of assembled archers waiting to shoot

their arrows at the first sign of your waking.
