Marissa and Ruby generously gifted it to me two weeks ago, and what I've been most struck by

is its duality, how it evokes feelings of both excess and longing. Yes, it feels like a chic,

crowded, glittering holiday party, but it also feels like the wistfulness of dumping the crystal ash trays after

all the guests have left. It's a bubble gum tuberose and a long fur coat. It's bright white

florals, but also the pressed dead ones that you keep to remember the night. It's the warmth

and spice of mold wine and the austerity of a martini. It's bright but biting, festive but pining.

And today you'll hear much more from the creative visionaries, collaborators,

and longtime friends behind this scent, Marissa and Ruby.

Marissa Zappas is a longtime friend of perfume room

and a perfumer whose fragrances you likely know and love

because almost all become instant cult favorites. And Ruby is a

comedian and actress who you may recognize from search party, high maintenance, curb your enthusiasm,

or just from downtown. This fragrance was created as an olfactive expression of her one-woman show

tragedy, which ran in Edinburgh and is currently running in New York, and if you live in New York,

you can enjoy the final showing of it this Thursday, November 30th at BCC in Williamsburg.
