Welcome to Pick Me Up, I'm'm scared the podcast i'm your host madeline and i'm your co-host kenna okay kenna today i wanted to ask you

0:32.7

what is capitalism? Oh my.

0:39.1

Oh my.

0:47.0

Well, I'm sure there's some like economist person out there who's like, well, let me tell you,

0:48.9

capitalism according to the Oxford Dictionary.

0:57.0

But to me, I think most people would say it was something really simplistic, like we exchange money for goods and services, and that is how the economy runs. But I feel like it's so much more

1:04.3

than that. So, okay, what makes capitalism unique is that it's an economic and political

1:09.7

system in which a country's trade and

individual person or a private corporation can own a business, can own

1:28.5

rental property, things like that, which makes sense. We exist in that now. We see that all the

1:40.2

heard the phrase that like private property is the root of all evil yes yes right and I think

1:45.9

a lot of people hear that and they think it means like your personal possessions like their things

1:50.4

you know yes yeah um but it actually doesn't or it's not supposed to anyway actually I saw online

1:56.6

someone said that there was this like huge campaign like propaganda wise to make americans think that the

2:02.9

term private property and communist literature like referred to like their objects in their home like

2:09.0

their house and their car so that people would hate communism please don't take my favorite mug yeah

2:13.9

nobody i need it for my coffee in the morning. Nobody actually, your favorite mug is not technically private property.

2:21.1

So that would actually be something more like a personal possession.

2:23.9

And in reality, that stuff is usually called personal property or personal possession,
