Hello from CNN, I'm Chris Debeau with the five things you need to know for Thursday

November 9th. We now have a better idea of where the diplomatic efforts stand to

get more hostages taken by Hamas on October 7th out of Gaza.

Israeli and U.S. intelligence chiefs met with katari officials in Doha today on this.

That's what a diplomatic source familiar with the ongoing talks told CNN.

CNN's Jeremy Diamond has more on what proposals are being discussed.

The talks apparently centered on a plan to release 10 to 20 civilian hostages in exchange

for a three-day pause in the fighting in Gaza.

This would also allow for the entry of additional humanitarian aid

into the Gaza Strip as well as for Hamas to compile and share a list of the hostages that are being

held inside the Gaza Strip.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insisted again today there would be no ceasefire without the release of

hostages as the humanitarian situation worsens in Gaza. The White House said

today Israel will start to implement four-hour pauses in military operations and areas of northern Gaza each day

to let more aid in and allow civilians more time to flee to the south.

Here we go again. Lawmakers have eight days until the government shuts down, and the two chambers appear

to be heading toward another spending showdown.
