Inflation continues to loosen its grip on American consumers. The latest inflation

report out today from the Commerce Department shows price hikes for consumers

slowed by the most in three and a half years, from a 2.9% annualized rate in July to 2.5 percent in August. The last time it was that

low was in February 2021 and federal data shows it's a rate that matches the

average seen in 2018 when Donald Trump was president. This decrease is largely

due to falling gas prices and stable grocery costs, but the report notes the cost of owning

and renting a home continues to be the leading driver of inflation.

This all but submits a quarter-point rate hike from the Federal Reserve when it meets

next week.

Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump are both claiming

victory after their debate last night, but voters are ultimately the judge of that.

Harris's campaign thought it went so well they're challenging Trump to do another

debate in October,

while the Trump campaigns pushing for September 25th on NBC.

Trump wasn't as definitive on Fox News this morning,

so it's unclear if they'll meet again on stage.

Either way,

CNN and Stephen Collins says last night's debate could have already

helped Harris's campaign.
