This doesn't happen very often. Millions of people in the Northeast and New England felt the shake of a 4.8 magnitude earthquake that

occurred this morning at 1023 a.m. Eastern.

That's according to the US Geological Survey, which says the epicenter was near

Lebanon, New Jersey, less than 50 miles west of New York City.

It says shaking was felt as far north as Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont,

and as far south as the D.C. region. The FAA says the earthquake also disrupted flight plans

to and from airports in the New York area, Philadelphia, and Baltimore.

Initial data indication from the USGS shows it's unlikely the light shaking caused any major damage,

but the agency stresses things could change as more data is

reviewed, including how strong the earthquake was. We know the Empire State Building

is intact at least. Its social media account said in all caps, quote, I am fine.
