So ECW died in 2001 and people today still love it. That is a testament to Paul Heyman and everything he created.

I mean, those three letters still get shouted at him when he does walk to the ring.

And the ECW arena, as it is known, well, it's still called the ECW arena.

And when any wrestling company runs there, everybody talks about extreme championship wrestling.

As we are running through some wrestling misconceptions though, from the last 30 years,

it is time to look at ECW, and you know the deal.

What's true and what's not.

Number 12, Paul Heyman started the company.

But he didn't. Let's move on.

Now, I'm only kidding, but actually this promotion was started as Eastern Championship Wrestling in 1992, and the man behind it all was a dude named Todd Gordon. At the time,

they were just another indie promotion or a regional company, whatever you want to call it,

they were just over there in Philadelphia doing their own thing. And they even worked with the

NWA, because everybody worked with the NWA, when all of a sudden Paul Heyman got connected

with them in 1993, kind of as a creative consultant, when all of a sudden Paul Heyman got connected with them in 1993,

kind of as a creative consultant, and all of a sudden he was booking the thing, and that's when

everything went nuts. So it went the National Wrestling Alliance, because Hayman thought they were way

too old, and in came Barb Wise steel chairs, and in a session with blood that would turn these fans into a

rabid audience.

It all went off in 1994 when Shane Douglas won the NWA title and Paul Heyman told him to

throw it on the floor because nobody wants that old school funny duddy trash.

And to this day, a lot of people would tell you that's when the true ECW was born.
