This is the Grenfell Tower Inquiry podcast, a new podcast every day the inquiry sits.

I'm Eddie Mayer. It was the final day of commemoration today.

And we heard the story of a man who sheltered six people in his flat on the top floor of the tower.

And we know that he would have given comfort to each of them

before they took their laugh's breaths and departed this world.

And the inquiry heard about a mother with disabilities

who was housed on the 18th floor.

Our mom lost her life not only to the fire that night,

but the corporate negligence by the very

people who were to ensure her safety. She couldn't go down 18 floors of stairs on a good day,

let alone in a fire. The first memorial today was to 63-year-old Raymond Bernard, also known as

Moses, who lived in flat 201 on the 23rd floor.

His sister, Sheramin, talked about their early life in Trinidad,

when Ray spent his spare time picking fruit in the wild.

Ray and Sherriman came to Britain as teenagers to live with their parents.

Ray arrived in the UK in 1969.

He attended Isaac Newton Boys School in Lambert Grove and then went on to do his apprenticeship to become an electrical engineer

when he was age 16 at the House of Lords.

Ray completed his apprenticeship with the House of Lords

and on completion was offered a full-time position within the complex which serviced both the House of Lords and the House of Commons.

Ray felt he had made it in life.
