Summary

As new parents ourselves, we are constantly seeking wisdom and advice from those who have been discipling and parenting their children much longer than us. It just so happens that our church is in the middle of a series on relationships, and this past week was all about parents and children! We utilized our sermon notes from the message preached by Pastor Brad Powell, because we thought what he said was too good not to share. Whether you’re a new parent like us, been a parent for a long time, or are even in a position of authority and influence over younger people, this message is for you. We also encourage you to listen to Brad’s entire message because he does such a great job communicating the truth of the Bible as it applies to parenting. Here’s the link to the full message:

Hey guys, welcome back to As For Me In My House. I'm Lena. And I'm Jordan. This

0:10.8

week end has been a great weekend. My family came in from New York to visit and

0:16.0

finally meet Alaythia. And it so happened to be the week we dedicated her to our

0:22.3

church which was yesterday. So we dedicated her on Saturday. And if you don't know what

0:27.0

dedicated is in the non-denominational Protestant church, we don't do like infant

0:36.2

baptism like maybe the Catholic church will do. But we basically stand up there with

0:42.0

our daughter in front of the pastor in front of the entire church congregation. And

0:46.7

profess and proclaim that we're going to raise this child to know and love the Lord.

0:52.2

So it's kind of a ceremony where the pastor praise over them. And we just say we're

0:57.1

here to do our job as parents to raise them in the Bible. And knowing the Bible. Yeah.

1:02.6

And it was very fitting because after the dedication it was like the first portion of

1:07.2

the service. And then right after that he was talking about parenting. And you guys

1:12.4

have mentioned before that you'd love to hear our like two cents on parenting even

1:16.4

though we really haven't had to do a whole lot of parenting yet. But obviously we were

1:21.0

planning for it and thinking ahead and kind of thinking like, okay, what are we going

1:24.7

to do? What aren't we going to do? What is the Bible say? We need to be doing as parents.

1:29.1

So this talk I think came in and a really good timing. And that's kind of what we want

1:33.8

to talk about today and kind of unpack and kind of share what our pastor talked about.

1:38.2

Yeah. And I know a lot of our listeners out there are young parents kind of like Molina

1:42.2

said. And we really aren't good parents. Molina and I like we're just we are aren't we're

1:48.6

not. Oh, we're so new to this. This is our first kid. We're still figuring out a lot

1:52.6

of stuff. Right. Kind of winging it, which I think is apparently it's parenting is winging
