I'm Kim, it's Thursday, December 15th, 2022, and we begin with some eerie sounds coming

from the red planet.

Asa says its Mars Perseverance rover just happened to have its microphone on when a whirling

tower of dust called a dust devil passed overhead.

About 10 seconds of the racket were recorded, including rumbling gusts of up to 25 miles

per hour, and the pinging of hundreds of dust particles against the rover.

Researchers say the atmosphere on Mars makes everything sound a bit more muted than a

dust storm would hear on Earth, but if you'd like to hear the sounds for yourself, you can

Back here on Earth, it's peace and quiet on the big island of Hawaii as the world's largest

active volcano is taking a breather.

Monoloa and its neighbor, Kilauea, both stopped erupting within a day of each other, according

to the US Geological Survey, and gas emissions have decreased to pre-eruption levels.

A coincidence?

Maybe not.

In the USGS tweeted, the volcanoes are not directly connected, but might feel one another

via stress effects, and that monoloa's eruption could have allowed Kilauea to relax.
