Hello everyone and welcome to this podcast introduction to the Thomas Jefferson

hour what an amazing day my daughter Catherine who is 21 years old and a recent

graduate of Columbia University in New York that is Mr. Hamilton's University.

He is here for the summer in North Dakota.

For a number of years, she said that she would be willing to host the

Jefferson, and finally our schedules have mesh, Catherine, and here you are.

Thank you, Dad. I'm so happy to be here.

What was it like? I mean you've heard the program and you of course know that I do this every

week what's it like to sit in that chair?

Well it's very different from listening to the program on iTunes and it's fun.

This program has been going on since before my birth, so I'm happy to finally be here.

First I'm surprised that you've ever listened to the program, but thank you.

So Catherine, it's, you are, you're not, you have not read a lot of books about Thomas Jefferson,

but you're generally familiar with his life. Sure.

And so how did you prepare for this program?

I read the book Mr. Jefferson and his women.

By John Kukla, that's an interesting book.

Very interesting book, and read some of his letters to his daughters online and of course had long conversations with you about this.

If I had written to you at your high school or in Columbia and said if you want my love you will learn to read Homer in the original Greek. What would your response have been?

I would have not provided a response. I would have cut off all contact. Well his daughters didn't

didn't have that spirit.

You're talking more like Abigail Adams than like a Virginia Bell.
