ground for the Sheikh Jara protests. If you remember these are basically the protests that sort of sparked the recent round of

fighting between Israel and Palestine.

We will be covering this did start with people getting evicted from their homes in Sheikh Jara in East Jerusalem.

You were on the ground in the shakjaro neighborhood, the evictions happened, like we all

saw that happening and then it kind of very quickly seemed to just drop out of the news.

Maybe you can just kind of take us back and explain exactly what happened there

because this in my opinion it looks to be what sparked the whole recent wave of fighting.

So maybe if you can just take us back explain you know what actually happened.

Yeah I mean so at least from my point of view because I you know I'm not really an act as a researcher

you know I'm just a Palestinian who's from Jerusalem,

whose family, you know, actually has, I grew up in Chechahrah and stuff like that.

And these evictions aren't new, you know, basically, you know, part of the whole

there's a Zionist standpoint is that, you know, Jerusalem and all of Palestine should be Jewish.

And in order to do that, they need to get rid of Palestine should be Jewish. And in order to do that, they need to get rid of Palestinians

who live there. And so I would say that in, I guess last year, the Israeli courts ruled to evict 12 Palestinian families

and to give their property to Israeli settlers, which would put about 500, almost 500

Palestinians, you know, out of their homes. And not only that, but they

also would be forced to pay to cover for the settlers, the legal settlers' expenses to move into their own homes.
