In this episode, I want to talk to you about driving your point home.

Preachers are teachers, heralds, and communicators.

Let me unpack that by way of introduction before we dig into the tips and

principles that I want to talk to you about in this episode. First, a preacher is a teacher.

We are to, in the words of 2 Timothy chapter 4 verse 2, we are to preach the word. We do not have

editorial authority over the content of the message that we preach. It is our job to, in the

language of 2 Timothy 2.15, to rightly handle the word of truth. We are to be teachers of the word of God. And I really do believe a faithful preacher

is unapologetically a teacher. It is not the task primarily of the preacher to entertain. It is not our

task to make sure people enjoy what we say. It's our

first and foremost task to make sure that we rightly handle the word of truth, that we tell the

truth on the text and that we tell the truth about Jesus. We are to teach people the Word of God. This is a

critical factor for me because over the course of my life and public ministry, I've just seen

the culture change in so many drastic and dramatic ways and seeing church life change. I grew up

in a church where it was a Bible, it was a Bible reading, Bible studying church, and the congregation

was biblically literate. they knew the word of God.

Just over the years, I could say at this point, over the decades, that has changed in such a remarkable way.

People do not know the word of God and you cannot assume that people know what you

are talking about.
