📜 TODAY'S SCRIPTURE: Romans 6:19-23

I am speaking in human terms, because of your natural limitations. For just as you once presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness leading to sanctification. For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. But what fruit were you getting at that time from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

0:15.3	morning. How are you thinking about yourself today? What's on your mind about who you are and what your place is in this world?

0:42.4	And it's the truth not of what you wish was true or what you think is true, but it's the truth based on what God's word says is true of you as a person who has placed your faith in Jesus Christ,

0:50.7	And we've been looking at Romans chapter number six and we've made it down to
0:55.8	about verse number 19. Now to recap let's just remember Paul has based this entire argument that he's making on the truth that
1:07.7	we as believers in Jesus Christ are now dead to sin and alive to God. And he's just asked the question, since we are
1:17.2	under grace, God's grace has been poured into our lives, and that means his
1:22.2	forgiveness is available and his goodness is now
1:25.2	ours does that mean it is okay for us just to take kind of a relaxed attitude
1:31.6	about sin and having a sinful life and not worry about it because
1:36.6	he's going to forgive us anyway. And Paul has just said back in verse 15, by no means, and he's saying when you present yourself to someone as a slave to obey
1:47.1	them, you are a slave. And he's saying, so if you present yourself to sin, to obey what it tells you to do. You are a slave to sin and he's saying
1:56.2	that's not who you are. And so that's why I ask the question how you're thinking about
2:00.9	yourself today because we can often wake up in the morning
2:05.5	with all kinds of funky things going on in our own feelings and in our own mind
2:10.7	about ourselves and many times those come from patterns we've developed over the course of our life.
2:17.0	Maybe it came from what someone said to you long ago or the feeling you got about what people thought of you as you were growing up in a home
2:26.2	that might have been dysfunctional or just not everything it should have been.
2:30.8	And those patterns just seem to hang on and they cling to us over time.
