Well, welcome back to Cat of the Gants' Live. It's the flannel panel, Chris Czech, Joe

Heschmeyer, and myself. And I got to try to straighten out some history, and then we'll

get to talking about Pope Francis and his comments to the Russian youth, and then his comments

to his fellow Jesuits about American ideological conservatives. And I'm sure there's a lot to

say there, but okay, it was Kubla Khan, is what I was not a till of the Hun, which rhymes

with Hannibal. I don't know why it came out as Hannibal, and then switched to Attila. I

was trying to say Kubla Khan. His mother was an historian, Christian, and Joe looked

it up and confirmed that. Thank you, Joe. Yes, she was the daughter-in-law of Genghis Khan

and the mother of Kubla Khan. Yeah. So among those Mongols, who are the great Mongolian

empire, there were Christians. They weren't all Christians, but there were historian Christians

among them. They had some difficulties with some of the Christological teachings. Well, that

was part of the, yeah, because the missionaries that came to them brought what we would call

a historian. Yeah. You were talking about the rise of Islam, and this is actually a really

important dimension to the rise of Islam. The historian's story plays out in several

important ways, one of which, oh, yeah. So Muhammad's brother-in-law, I want to say, is

an historian priest. And so you have a lot of the understandings Muhammad has of Christianity

or mediated through an historianism, but also a lot of the reasons why North Africa ends

up becoming Muslim is because there's so much infighting among Christians that the

Catholic, such orthodox Roman empire and Byzantine empire is pretty harsh with the historians

in North Africa and in the Middle East. And so the Muslims come along and basically say,

hey, just pay the demitude tax and you'll be fine. It doesn't work out like that in practice

at all. It just becomes this really insufferable and total atmosphere that really effectively
