I want to talk to you about preaching resources on the Psalms.

I want to share some of my favorite resources to use

when I am studying to preach from the book of Psalms.

I love the Psalms, don't you?

I, like most Christians, I find great value in the Psalms in my devotional time, in my devotional reading, in my devotional meditation.

I often say that I love the Psalms because the book of Psalms is the most honest book I've ever read. It addresses all the vicissitudes of life.

And sometimes in the same psalm, the Psalm can praise God and cry out to God, you know.

The Lord is great in the Psalms, and Lord, where are you in the Psalms?

Sometimes in the same Psalm.

And you will, as a book by Warren Wersby, rightly says,

you can meet yourself in the Psalms.

They are wonderful to read, to meditate on, and to study.

But the Psalms are also great to preach.

I really got into preaching the Psalms by the influence, the distant influence of two preachers.

First was R.A. Williams, Jr., who is the pastor now for some four decades

of the McCorme Memorial Baptist Church in Los Angeles, California. I remember in 1993,

I was 20-year-old pastor, and he came to preach a revival meeting for us at our local

church five-night meeting. And for each of those five nights, Dr. Williams preached the first five

Psalms.
