Some cultures used to believe that a photograph could steal your soul.

From ghostly figures caught on film to unsettling energies captured through the lens,

our first story will make you wonder, can a camera really capture more than just a moment in time?

This is the photograph. Two years ago, I took my wife, father, and three-year-old

son to visit family in rural New England. They live on a small farm with buildings that date back

to the 1700s, which have been restored, and a guest house that was built around 20 years ago.

My aunt, uncle, and cousins were set up in the main house, so we took the guest house out back. My cousin is a prolific photographer,

and my aunt decorated most of the rooms in the main house and guest house with her photos.

But I didn't notice much about the photos in the guest house when we first got

there. The next morning, we all gathered in the main family room to eat breakfast. We were sitting

discussing our plans for that day, and I noticed my son was keeping his head down and not answering

my father when he talked to him. This was unusual as the two were close.

I looked over at my dad and saw he was sitting underneath a photograph of a room in a rundown house.

The room had a large window with sunlight streaming in. Shadows cast along the length of the room.

Looking at the photograph, I felt a bit uneasy, a strange feeling,

but didn't give it much thought. After finishing breakfast, I noticed my son, get up from the table,

and walk in a wide arc around the end of the table where my father was sitting. Over the next day or so,
