This is where we left off on the last episode, but it is not the end of the letter from Gilgolad

to the King of Numenor. It continues, and it says each year

it gains in strength, for most men are ripe to its purpose. Not far off is the day I judge,

when it will become too great for the Eldar, unaided, to withstand. Therefore, whenever I behold a tall ship of the kings of men, my heart is eased, and now I make bold to seek your help.

If you have any strength of men to spare, lend them to me, I beg.

Not only does Gilgolad believe that Sauron is back, and we know he

eventually comes back. The end of the second age ends in a war between the free peoples and Sauron.

Not only is he back, but Gilgolad is desperate for help and every time he sees a ship every time

al-daryon returns to middle earth it brings him hope and then he speaks well of alderion he says

your son will report to you, if you will,

all our reasons. But in fine, it is his counsel, and that is ever wise, that when assault comes,

and it surely will, we should seek to hold the Westlands, where still the Eldar dwell, and the men

At the least we must defend Iriador about the long rivers west of the mountains that we name

Hithlegir, our chief defense. But in the mountain wall there is a great gap southward, in the land

of Calinardon.

And by that way, in road from the east must come.
