So you're getting your manny's down, your paddies down, or whatever, and you're thinking,

0:04.0

you know what these people know what they're doing here. I'm safe here. It's clean. I know I'm getting all these little cuts and stuff all over my feet or on my hands. It's cool. Adam Murphy's going to say that you may want to watch a couple of times before you go in and come out. This was Jen's initial concern a couple of weeks ago. She had the same thought.

0:21.5

She went in to get like a manicure or whatever.

0:23.7

She's like, are these people really qualified to be doing this? So I think at that point, you picked up the story, right? Yeah. Well, this is something I actually began looking into about six months ago. And we did a couple of investigations. And then, of course, we wanted to revisit this, and the timing,

0:38.5

really, with Jen, was impeccable because it was something that she just experienced. And there are a lot

0:43.3

of issues with nail salons. And one of the big things that we uncovered is there really not enough

0:47.7

inspectors in the state. And I should just reintroduce you again. This is Adam Murphy from CBS, Atlanta here.

0:52.2

And there are just, thank you, there are just not enough inspectors to go around and check on a regular basis. I mean, each salon should be

0:58.1

inspected about once a year, much like we talk about with restaurants, but there really

1:02.0

aren't enough inspectors to get the job done. And so when we go in, and when customers like

1:07.3

yourself go in, you probably spotted some violations. You probably notice they may not

1:11.3

be cleaning the instruments right before you go in. But are there violations? You said spotted some

1:16.2

violations, but there are no violations, right? Well, there are. Every salon is inspected. They don't

1:20.8

receive a numerical or letter grade score like they would at a restaurant that we talk about, but

1:26.5

there is an inspection sheet,

1:28.3

and so they are held accountable for certain things. And so the state says they send inspectors in

1:34.0

on average about once a year. But we know, based on the number of inspectors that we found,

1:39.1

we talked to the State Board of Cosmetology, there just aren't enough to do it as often as

1:43.5

they should. And so you

1:44.9

definitely could be at risk if you're not being your best advocate when you walk in.

1:49.4

So I guess it's in the piece on things that you're supposed to look for when you get there, or no?
