Summary

What have 11 years behind a microphone taught me about building a podcast, creating meaningful conversations, and staying consistent when the excitement wears off?

I share the biggest lessons I've learned from over a decade of podcasting, from finding my voice and connecting with an audience to embracing mistakes and playing the long game. Whether you're a creator, entrepreneur, or simply looking to improve at something that matters to you, these lessons extend far beyond podcasting. I hope they'll help you create with more confidence, more purpose, and a little more patience.

11 years ago today, July 6th, 2015, I released my very first podcast episode. 11 years.

0:17.1

I didn't really know anything about podcasting. I didn't really know anything about how to run one or operate one.

0:24.1

They were still relatively new.

0:25.7

I had never actually even listened to or subscribed to a podcast.

0:29.1

But a friend of mine that was working with me at the time, Mr. Roger Nairn, who was absolutely

0:33.2

phenomenal.

0:33.9

I trusted him, said, dude, you need to start a podcast.

0:37.4

And so I did. And here we are

0:39.9

11 years later with thousands of interviews. I have released an interview every week for the last

0:49.6

11 years. And I have released a solo episode every week for the last decade, for the last 10 years.

0:59.8

11 years later, thousands of episodes, 8 plus million downloads, and sitting across from some of the

1:08.5

world's smartest, most incredible people. I mean, I've interviewed some of the top

1:14.1

therapists, psychologists, some of the top entrepreneurs and athletes and bodybuilders. It's just

1:20.7

astounding what this particular avenue of podcasting has brought. I have gained so much wisdom and insight.

1:29.1

And I thought, how cool would it be to celebrate 11 years of podcasting,

1:34.8

then sharing with you 11 of the biggest lessons that I have learned along the way?

1:39.4

And these aren't 11 lessons about podcasting.

1:43.2

These are 11 lessons sometimes from the guests that I've

1:47.5

sat across, but also 11 lessons that I've learned in just producing the show, that I've learned

1:53.6

about myself, that I've learned about business, that I've learned about being a human. And so today,

1:58.6

I wanted to share some of those lessons with you because my goodness,

2:03.4

there have been a lot. As always, I'm Connor Beaton. This is The Man Talk Show. If you are not
