Summary

Michigan is 7-0 with blowout wins over the past two national champions. And the Wolverines are, once again, excellent defensively thanks to John Beilein's hiring of Luke Yaklich. Matt Norlander and Gary Parrish open this episode by discussing what appears to be the Big Ten's best team.

After that, the conversation went like this:

7:03: Roy Williams said North Carolina stinks. Is he right?

11:52: The Bob Knight 30 For 30 -- "The Last Days of Knight" -- made its television debut on Thursday. The guys spent a few minutes discussing the controversial coaching icon. There's also a bacon story from Parrish.

24:50: Weekend preview, including Gonzaga-Creighton, Nevada-USC, Arizona-UConn and Oregon-Houston.

Hey there, it's Gary Parrish. It's Friday, November 30, 2018. Welcome back to the Ion College

0:19.7

basketball podcast. Got Matt Norlander here with me. And the story of the past few days,

0:24.0

I think has been missing. And Wolverines had already hammered Villanova at Villanova.

0:29.2

Then on Wednesday night, they destroyed North Carolina in and Arbor final score. There was 84, 67.

0:35.2

So Michigan is 7 to 0 ranked 6 that Kenpom. They lost three of their tough four scores from last

0:41.2

seasons 33 win team that played for the national title. And so far, it doesn't seem to matter.

0:47.0

Norlander, I know you wrote about Michigan late Wednesday. So let's just start here. What do you make of

0:52.0

John B. Lens team? They are exceedingly impressive GP to the point where it's not just that people thought they

1:01.9

might have been a little bit better than could have been expected heading into the season. When I've

1:07.1

watched Michigan this year, and not just what they did against North Carolina this week, and not just

1:11.7

necessarily what they did against Villanova, those are the two most predominant wins I also saw a little bit

1:16.8

of what they did against Providence when they held the friars to less than 50 points. And the defense has

1:20.9

been so stand out. I do believe that this team has the potential to be even better than the last season's team,

1:27.3

which seems a little bit crazy on its surface considering it made the national title game. It had a couple

1:32.3

of NBA players on the team, and then you know, you bring back some good players this season. But you know,

1:37.2

those kind of expectations weren't exactly what most people thought were going to be in store for Michigan.

1:42.4

But it's hard to say otherwise at this point because of how great the defense has been. And I would even argue

1:47.9

the offense is going to grow into something better. Now Michigan's going to take its losses. No doubt about

1:52.2

that they've got an intriguing game this weekend. It's kind of weird. We've got some big 10 conference play,

1:56.4

but that's because the big 10 football game is happening and the league is just trying to like, I don't

2:00.3

know race awareness of basketball games being played because they're going to 20 games. I digress. It is

2:05.7

it is really really fascinating to see how good Michigan is. And it's it's almost Villanova
