This is Handel on the Law, Marginal Legal Advice, where I tell you you have absolutely no case.

All right, let me tell you what's going on here in my state, California.

And it actually does make a little sense for even people who are pro incarceration of bad guys, really strict on crime.

There's a law, SB 731, they kicked in.

And what it does is automatically seal conviction and arrest records for most ex-offenders

who are not convicted of another felony for four years after completing sentences

and any parole or any probation.

And so that record of an arrest or conviction is sealed automatically.

Now, a defendant or someone who is out, a former convicted prisoner who who is out can, in fact, make a motion to seal records, and it's taken on a case-by-case basis.

This law automatically seals the records of most people who are not convicted, for example, violent crime, certainly sexual crimes of any kind.

Those people are, those records are not sealed.

But for the rest, yeah.

And here's why, because you can't get a job.

There you are, the record, even in an arrest record, you can't get a job.

You can't get housing. you certainly can't get any

security clearance, even nonviolent crimes. I mean, in many cases, done, finished. And I get calls

all the time here on the show, where you have a former convicts who have done their time.

They did their two and a half, three, four years, and simply can't get a job.

What do you do?

I mean, it's automatic.

And some of their algorithms that check, and there's no way that a computer will even let anybody go through the next step.

So this bill takes care of it and says, okay, and just to give you numbers, just to give you numbers,
