Summary

Rob Morell from our Product Development team joins Jimmy and Mark once again to give us the 10 minute crash course in magnifiers for red dots. In the wake of our fresh Micro 3x Magnifier release, we ask Rob some of the technical questions behind magnifiers, what they are, how they work and what’s so special about this new Micro 3x? A few misconceptions even get debunked in this short amount of time. Want more magnifier conversation? Let us know! Maybe these deserve a full episode, too?

What's up everybody? We have 10 minutes here with Rob Morel from engineering to talk to you all about magnifiers, the ones that go behind red dots.

0:09.0

Now, we'll just real quick get this out of the way. For those not familiar, a magnifier,

0:13.2

if you've ever seen somebody using a red dot

0:14.9

or a holographic site,

0:16.2

and there is yet another optic behind it,

0:18.8

could be flipped off to the side,

0:20.0

could be flipped up directly behind that optic.

0:22.3

That is, unless you're using something else

0:24.9

interesting, a magnifier, which is essentially

0:27.5

magnifying the image that you're seeing

0:29.4

through the red dot or the holographic site

0:31.4

by 3X, 4X, 5X, whatever it might be.

0:35.0

It magnifies essentially everything, the reticle, the image, all that stuff.

0:38.6

And you would use it in the case, obviously if you need a little bit more than just what your natural eye can give you

0:45.2

which I guess you could call one power and that's kind of the use of it it's something small

0:50.8

it can flip to the side you can use just the red dot it can

0:53.2

flip up and then you can use the magnification so we're going to talk all about these

0:57.6

things Rob can you explain to us just some of the engineering nis behind what these are?

1:04.8

Isn't it kind of basically just like a prism site on a mount?

1:07.4

Yeah, it's pretty similar to that principle difference I guess between this and a

1:11.1

prism site is that there's no radical in the magnifier.

1:13.8

So, yeah, otherwise largely constructed similarly, you might not be able to turn a magnifier
