My objective is to interview the most interesting people in the world,

and in the next 30 minutes, get insights and even discover how it is that they do what they do,

what makes them unique and fascinating, their success mindset,

and certainly what keeps them positive.

My guest today is a comedian and playwright of two West End shows.

His autobiography, my name is Daphne Fairfax, was published to critical acclaim, and he's a regular presenter on BBC Radio 4.

He also performed stand-up all around the UK and in 2008 he won the Edinburgh Festival Spirit of the Fringe Award.

I'm talking today to Arthur Smith.

There are some jokes that work in front of every audience and there are some jokes that some audiences don't really like.

You've got to read

the room, as they say. That's a crucial part of comedy. Victor Borga said laughter is the shortest

distance between two people. And it's an exhilarating feeling if you're making a whole room

full of people laugh. I remember I was doing a gig in Copenhagen once.

A man put his hand up in the front row,

and I was thinking, what my Danish anti-hekel lines like?

You put his hand and said,

excuse me, I think you are very nice.

You can't look back and say, I wish I'd done that,

I wish I've done that I wish I've done that
