What happened to the old restaurants? What happened to the big obnoxious golden arches? When did Taco Bell lose the bells?

0:07.1

When the restaurants look like, you know, old-style Casita missions, right? What happened to the Pizza Hut?

0:14.1

Well, that's what I want to talk about today here on Council Trent. Mondays and Wednesdays, we talk apologetics and theology.

0:20.5

Friday, we talk about

0:21.2

whatever I want to talk about. And have you noticed in the past 10 to 15 years, all the fast food

restaurants look the same now? If you are Gen Z or younger, you probably don't notice this because

0:32.1

you are a young person. You are not middle-aged like myself or older generations that remember the dramatic

changes. But I remember, and I'm telling you about it today, just showing that things, the past is a

different country, oftentimes a better country. It's so different now. Because I remember even 20

years ago, you could drive around and you would look at a building and it was a, you know, a weird building. Maybe it was a church, like a Protestant church. And it had a weird red roof on it. And like, it's like, oh, what's that? Oh, that's a Protestant church. It used to be a pizza hut. Like, remember you could drive around and look at buildings and be like, oh, yeah, that used to be a Starbucks. Oh yeah, that used to be a jack in the box. Oh, yeah, that used to be this. I remember there was a jack in the box on the corner of 44th Street and Thomas near where I used to live in Phoenix, Arizona growing up, always going there to hit up the 99 cent tacos. Then it went out of business. I think it became a bank and you're like, oh, yeah, it looks like an old jack in the box. Oh, but then it became another restaurant. It became the heart attack grill, which I never got the chance to eat at. It's kind of a, I wouldn't eat there because they have like the naughty nurses as the waitresses and I don't want to support that. But maybe I'll just do DoorDash. And I can't eat it. I'm not going to eat a place as naughty nurses as the waitress. But I really do want to try the quadruple bypass burger. Apparently if you eat that entire burger, it's huge, like 10,000 calories or something. They will wheel you out to your car in a wheelchair. And you have to put on a hospital gown when you go in to eat and sounds horrible.

I'm not going to eat there.

2:03.2

But I remember it was like you drive by.

2:04.4

Oh, yeah, it used to be the jack in the box.

2:05.7

It used to be. There's a whole bunch of businesses. You can say, oh, it used to be this. But now all of them look the same. It's that same boxy, gray scale, exposed steel, you know, lots of the vertical pipes and shafts inside,

2:22.3

the particular hanging incandescent bulbs. It's all the same. You could go in at the Wendy's.

2:27.7

Like there's a Wendy's, we usually would stop that on our road trips for our family going to

2:31.4

California. I know there's one we usually stop at,

2:35.0

and it's just like a sleek inside as a gas fireplace,

2:37.7

and it's just, you know, it's nice,

2:39.7

but it doesn't have that charm.

2:42.1

It doesn't have the charm of the old,

faded brown leather seats,
